“Jesus is my Husband” It’s kind of a crazy statement to say and one I thought was only something girls on our squad said in passing jokingly while walking in a season of singleness. But when the Lord spoke those words over me on a worship night in April I knew there was more to the story.

Although these words may not be based in the biblical sense I do believe that the Lord has used these words to speak to me abundantly during this season of the race. In Boquete, Panama we had an all squad worship night and as we sang I continued to truly proclaim that the Lord could have all of me. That he could use me in the ways he created me and I myself would dedicate my life to serve him (that proclamation is a lot easier said than done). At that point the Lord reminded me of several things I hadn’t yet fully given to Jesus. In those moments he spoke the words “Jesus is my Husband ”. As I sat in prayer meditating over those words he brought up questions like “if all you had for the rest of your life was your devotion with Christ and no partner would you resent him?”, “Are you handing over your relationship or the idea of marriage truly over to God and his timing?”, “Are you relying on others to carry your burdens and hardships more than others?”, “Have you been expecting fleshly humans to love you in the ways God only can?”.

Needless to say I had a lot to pray about and a lot of answers I still do not have but here is what I know…

  1. I do not need anything but Jesus, with him I can be sustained in all things and he is the provider of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control, what more could you ask for? While companionship is a gift from the Lord it is not a promise.

  2. It is unfair to anyone else in your Life if you do not put Jesus before them. As fleshly humans we are completely imperfect and we mess up. We naturally  convey a selfish and insecure love that naturally no matter how great you believe you are at loving others is there. If we don’t as believers take our brokenness to the Lord first and allow him to mend it and mend us we are signing ourselves up for heartbreak. No one can love you in the way God created them if you don’t let God love you in the way he created you to be loved.

  3. If we allow ourselves to be loved by the one who knows every little thing about us then we will know the GREATEST LOVE OF ALL. Because he is a God with open arms ready for you right now, so what’s holding you back?

“For your maker is your Husband, The Lord almighty is his name, the holy one of Israel is your redeemer: he is called the God of all the earth.” Isaiah 54:5

I highly recommend listening to the song pieces by Bethel music and meditating on his great love.

So what is holding you back from receiving God’s true Love? Is it fear of being fully in? Shame from past mistakes? Brokenness that someone of the faith caused you?

I challenge you to give that to the one true healer and let him redeem those stories and love you through them more than anyone else ever could.
